Goal:
Understanding deep core stability.
Recognizing and comprehending the concept of "bread loaf."
Sensing and observing the difference between superficial muscle engagement and corset activation.
The objective is to prevent "bread loafing" by prioritizing deep core stability. So, what exactly is "bread loafing"? It occurs when the superficial abs protrude during core exercises because the deep core muscles are unable to keep them in. Consequently, the presence of a bread loaf might indicate inadequate activation of the deep core. The deep core, acting as a "corset," should possess sufficient strength to maintain the proximity of the superficial abs to the spine, thereby improving core stability. Therefore, during any abdominal exercise, focus on avoiding bread loafing by activating your deep core muscles, utilizing your breath, drawing in the ribs, and maintaining a stable pelvis and spine.

Different core engagement demonstrated.
Hollowing: Pelvis tucked, core engaged & drawing in -- there is a change in the spine.
Drawing in: Spine stays neutral, core engagement only moves belly towards the spine. -
